Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Kyiv to mark 35 years of Ukrainian independence and announced an agreement for Ukraine to begin producing its own models of the British Storm Shadow cruise missile. He is set to meet President Zelensky and chair a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, a partnership of 35 countries supporting Ukraine, and is expected to reaffirm that UK support will not waver. The visit is his first foreign trip as prime minister, and he is also due to accept an award on behalf of the British people recognising UK support for Ukraine.

Two police officers who died in a crash on the A66 near Middlesbrough have been described as heroes by their families. PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough were killed when their police vehicle was hit by a car travelling the wrong way; five young men in that car also died. The Independent Office for Police Conduct revealed police had received reports about the car and an armed response car pursued it for nearly seven minutes before the chase was ended for safety reasons, with the collision occurring ten seconds later. A GoFundMe page for the officers' families has raised almost £240,000, and a local church is opening for a silent vigil. Separately, a fast-moving wildfire in Nevada has forced more than 90,000 people to evacuate, with at least six injured and over 50 square kilometres burned.

Syrian state media confirmed that Syrian officials have met Israeli intelligence officers in US-brokered talks, following two Israeli strikes in Syria over the past week, with discussions reportedly covering a potential withdrawal of Israeli troops and the Golan Heights. The BBC gained rare access inside Afghanistan under the Taliban, five years after they returned to power, showing a Taliban governor handling a woman's divorce case and speaking to a former protester who said the Taliban are scared of educated women. Other news included the Pakistani Chief of Defence Forces travelling to Iran to try to reopen negotiations with the US, and the French President and Saudi Crown Prince chairing the first meeting of a new strategic partnership council in Paris.
