A man has been jailed for eight years after creating a fake Tinder profile in his ex-girlfriend's name and using it to lure men to her home, claiming she had a fantasy about being raped.
Asad Hussain, who met his victim on the dating app Tinder under the false name Mick Rennie, was described in court as a controlling and exceptionally deceitful individual. After the woman ended the relationship because of his possessive and jealous behaviour, Hussain set up a fake profile that made it appear she wanted men to come to her house and rape her.
The court heard that 35 men attended the woman's home, with four arriving on the same day. Some claimed she had messaged them about violent sexual acts, but those messages were actually sent by Hussain. One man pushed the woman's door open, breaking the glass, and showed her a message in which she had apparently told him to give the door a good nudge. That message was also faked by Hussain.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, the woman said her life had been ripped apart and that she constantly feels paranoid and scared. Her support worker said: 'Yes, we've got criminal closure, but her closure may never come. Her recovery will. I hope one day she'll be able to look back on this as part of her history and not her future.'
Hussain was found guilty of stalking. His car registration, caught on the victim's doorbell camera, led police to him. He showed no remorse during the sentencing. The victim said: 'I never really knew him. He lied to me from day one.'
