The first report concerned the Jersey gas explosion case: two gas workers were found guilty of 10 counts of gross negligence manslaughter and Island Energy was convicted of health and safety breaches after 10 people died in St Helier in December 2022; a jury could not reach a verdict on a third worker, Lee Alan Ward, who denies the charges. It then reported new measures laid in Parliament under which offenders who refuse to attend sentencing could be confined to their cells for up to three weeks and lose privileges and social visits, building on an existing law allowing an extra two years in jail. The programme also reported evidence in the Russell Brand trial, further arrests after a police officer was shot in the foot in Nottingham, Kieran Hayler being cleared of rape and sexual assault charges involving a 13-year-old, and Tommy Robinson giving evidence in his harassment trial, where he denied the charges. A cyber security issue led to government services being temporarily taken offline, with MOT testing affected and IT departments working to patch a PHP fault; a minister said there had been no breach of budget security.

UK government services and multiple sites around the world, including parts of Amazon and Wikipedia, were offline as experts worked to fix a major cyber security issue that led to millions of hacking attempts; AI systems brought the problem to light. Barclays is to cut around 5,000 jobs this year as it turns to artificial intelligence to streamline operations and reduce costs, but has not revealed how many UK roles will be axed. Further arrests were made after a police officer was shot in the foot in Nottingham city centre on Sunday: a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested in the Nottingham area yesterday, and a 21-year-old was arrested in London on Tuesday; the officer remains in a stable condition.

5 News reported that the Jackdaw gas field about 150 miles east of Aberdeen had been approved, with gas due to reach UK homes from the end of the month. The project had been approved in 2022 but was held up by legal challenges; it was presented as supporting energy security and jobs, though Number 10 said it would not cut bills, and it would meet around 2-3% of UK demand. Campaigners opposed further fossil fuel extraction, and a decision on Rosebank remained pending. At Prime Minister's questions, the Tories welcomed Jackdaw but pressed for Rosebank and an end to the ban on new licences; the Prime Minister called Jackdaw pragmatic, Donald Trump welcomed it on social media, and reports suggested the Energy Secretary was leaning towards rejecting Rosebank. The Prime Minister also asked the Chancellor to examine scrapping gas standing charges. Separately, inflation rose to 3.5%, its highest in almost a year, with a Burnham report on cost pressures including fuel, heating and eating out ahead of the Budget.
