Emmy Awards

Channels reported on the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles. Welsh actor Matthew Rhys was the central story, winning two lead acting awards for Widow's Bay and The Beast in Me. The series Widow's Bay was a major winner, though the two channels differed on its total number of awards: BBC reported 14, while Sky reported six. Jean Smart won again for Hacks, with BBC highlighting her fifth consecutive award and Sky noting she was the first woman to win for every season of a show. The medical drama The Pitt won the outstanding drama award; BBC added it also won best actor for Noah Wyle and had received 25 nominations, and that Gary Oldman was again defeated. Michael J. Fox received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his Parkinson's disease advocacy and received a standing ovation. Taylor Swift made a cameo appearance, with Sky specifying it was in a Law and Order skit, while BBC noted she missed the ceremony to attend an NFL game. Other items covered by only one channel included BBC mentions of Stephen Colbert, Allison Janney, a tribute to Dolly Parton, a Charlie's Angels reunion, and Kate O'Flynn's first Emmy; Sky mentioned Rhea Seehorn's win for Pluribus and a speech from Vince Gilligan.
