The Full Story

A man accused of a mass stabbing on a train has admitted wounding with intent but denies attempted murder. Anthony Williams, 33, from Peterborough, appeared by video link at Cambridge Crown Court a week before his trial.
He pleaded guilty to 12 counts of wounding with intent and two counts of attempting to wound with intent. He also admitted seven further minor charges, making 21 charges in total. The charges relate to the attack on an LNER service from Doncaster to London on 1 November last year and to incidents in Stevenage, Peterborough and London in the hours leading up to it. The train made an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon after the attack, and emergency services attended within minutes. Ten people were severely wounded. Williams was arrested shortly afterwards.
Williams denies 14 counts of attempted murder. These include the attempted murders of nine passengers and a member of the LNER catering staff on the train. They also include four other people in the hours leading up to the train attack. One of the attempted murder charges concerns a 14-year-old boy. Williams, who is being treated and held at Rampton Hospital, spoke quietly to confirm his name and enter his pleas.
His trial is due to start next week at Cambridge Crown Court and is expected to last six weeks. He is due back in court on Monday.
