Work colleagues discover they are brother and sister after 20 years

Two work colleagues who became close friends over 20 years have discovered they are actually brother and sister. The revelation came after a chance conversation about adoption.

Dave Green, a supervisor at Manchester Airport bus station, met Andrea Unstun when she came to fill and clean the vending machines. They quickly bonded over shared interests, including motorbikes, and often finished each other's sentences. Andrea once remarked that they were like brother and sister.

Two years into their friendship, Dave was fostering a child but had to stop due to work and relationship pressures. Distraught, he called Andrea and mentioned that he was adopted. Andrea then revealed that she had an older brother who was adopted, named Stewart. Dave replied that his birth name was Stewart Proudlove. Andrea phoned her mother and confirmed that Dave was born at Wythenshawe Hospital on 24 March 1966, the same date as her brother. They realised they were siblings.

Dave had been adopted as a baby after his mother, then a teenager, was given the choice of giving him up or having her own mother raise him as her son. Andrea had promised her mother at age six that she would find her brother.

When Andrea took Dave to meet their mother for the first time in 40 years, Dave recognised the route from his days as a bus driver. He had driven past their mother's house hundreds of times. The reunion was emotional, with their mother telling Andrea through tears, 'You kept your promise.'

Since then, the pair have continued to discover uncanny similarities, from the way they make tea to how they eat chocolate bars. Dave said, 'I've got the one thing in my life that I need to make it special and that's yourself.' Andrea added, 'I really do think you were my lottery win.'

The story, which began at Manchester Airport bus station, has changed their lives forever. They now cherish every day together, making up for lost time.
